I think what tevi means about varying the textures is trying to make the texture
on each surface less uniform= so that it doesn't LOOK like you used a texture
You're right in saying that natural objects like stone are "textured"
even when smooth but they don't have the same texture everywhere
For example, with your trees, you varied the color and placement of the
leaves
Your stone...especially the ground...should also have natural variation
What type of ground were you trying to create with the texture? The pink texture
looks more like an indoor floor.
Try using different blending options, overlaying other textures, etc. to get
some variation on the texture
Hope that helps
I'm looking between the 1,000-1,500 dollar (US) price range...prefer to be
leaning towards the low end of that range if possible
After some more thought...I may be reconsidering Dell since they have decent
dual core models

Oh...also...any thoughts on Windows XP media center 2005?
Well, these specs are what I'm looking for:
Pentium M around 1.7ghz
1G memory
at least 60gb hd
b/g wireless
around 14-15" screen
I want quality plus value but also goodlooking lightweight design is also
important
In terms of design, I've also looked at Dell, Compaq, and Sony
I plan to get an extended warranty and that's usually where the cost bites
I'm considering buying a winbook w series notebook and was wondering if anyone
owns or has heard of the computers...they seem to be a small company with pretty
good value
I'm not a gamer so I'm not looking for top-of-the-line
Curious to see if anyone has anything to say
Just saw it in theatres...a decent action movie but the script was pretty
corny...the new director isn't as good either...a little overdramatic...the
first two were much better
Still worth seeing though
I heard that nightcrawler isn't in this one because the actor opted out...didn't
like all the makeup/costuming
They definitely introduced a lot of characters in this movie so they had to
spread out the screentime, but you get to see them all do some cool stuff
Not enough of my favorite Rogue in my opinion though
Not surprised if there's x4...the very end scene (after the credits) definitely
left room for more story
Quote by flyindreamsThanks for the
feedback guys :3 Umm the way I see it so far is you've gotta pick between one of
two evils with regards to timing. One is a) doing it in summertime at the same
time as the AP war, but since it's summer, overall there is more free time; b)
doing it AFTER AP war, but have it during the school year. Last year we
definitely bumped up against finals pressure, etc. which was not cool, so I
remember thinking "We should've done it in the summer."
One way to avoid the walling burn with overlapping contests is if the wallpaper
part of this contest is scaled down, but I guess that's impossible to plan for
until we figure out how many people want to do this
...and it sounds like people on the whole are still interested in doing this in
groups?
Yup that's pretty much my thought...doing it at the same time as another major
event is tough but I know I'll have free time this summer...and I know I'm going
to be superbusy this fall
Maybe late summer (July-Aug?) would be a good compromise?
Doing in it in groups is a fun way to organize it
I'd be up for non-walling challenges for more variety too though

Oh...and I would be thrilled if there was specifically a doujinshi component
After looking at all the wall threads you posted, this is the wall idea that is
the most striking to me...although it's difficult to tell since you only posted
small size images
First, I would suggest rather than spreading your time/energy working on so many
walls at once...pick the one you like the most and focus on it first
It looks like you like using lighting/cutting effects with text as your walling
style...you could definitely create something pretty neat that way as long as it
worked with the image you picked to wall
With this wall...I like the fragment/sections style that you used with the
image
Although the black background and text create an interesting contrast...it might
be nice to see the background and image integrated more
Maybe if you removed the text and tried extending the image while keeping the
segmented look? You could go for a techie style wall maybe
If you like using text, it would be interesting if you tried out some
non-default texts...see if you can find fonts that fit more specifically with
the image/series that you are walling
In general...it usually makes it easier if you pick one image to focus on in a
wall and think about how to create a background that suits the image...you can
play around with lighting and 3-d effects, but it's probably best not to let the
effects overshadow the image
Hope that helps in some way Keep
up the walling effort
Just a reminder that everyone can always submit a group page banner design along
with matching wall badges
(Sizing guidelines: Banner 500x180 px ; Badge 200x30 px)
The banners should include "Simple-ism" as text
The wall badges should include "Featured in Simple-ism" as
text
To submit, simply post a (text) link to the image files (preferably gifs) in the
simple-ism gb or pm me. Any questions can be directed at me through pm.
I expect the first one was deleted because the image you used looks rather low
quality (rather blurry and jaggy)
Also, it seems you only added the text and framing bands to the original image
which was probably deemed not enough personal effort
The second wall looks better with better image quality...
however, putting multiple images together in a collage style also is lower
effort and time
Have you considered taking one of those images...extracting the character from
the scan and making your own background? It is always better when you make a
personal contribution to the wall beyond choosing a scan and adding text
Hope that helps
Well...compared to the wolf silhouette and star background...the moon is very
blurry looking and a little low quality...have you thought about creating a moon
yourself? Maybe by following the shapes in this moon and vectoring/shading it
from scratch?
You could also integrate the characters more into the moon that way if that is
the look you are going for
The dark corner also cuts off too soon for the balance of the overall wall I
think...especially since it cuts off part of the wolf
An interesting design with the diamonds and nice black and white contrast
However, your character images look like they are low quality images that are
overfiltered
Not sure the curvy shapes in the background work well with the sharp diamond
shapes
How about trying again with higher quality character images and a background
design that works more with the diamond shapes if you like those?
You could keep the black and white quality of the background but make the
characters and background seem more connected.
Hope that helps
Cool idea with the monochromatic color scheme...it works with tokidoki's drawing
style
Might want to use a bit more contrast though...maybe make the links black? to
make things a little less flat
Lovely page design...great image...
although a little on the bright side...gets a little hard on the eyes
Maybe a slightly dimmer blue for the page itself?
After a recent group gb discussion of banners...
You are all invited to submit a group page banner design along with matching
signatures and wall badges
(see my long gb post in Simple-ism for an example)
If we get enough, we can set up a rotating banner on the group page
Sigs and wall badges will be available for optional member use
(Sizing guidelines: Banner 500x180 px ; Sig 300x50 px ; Badge 200x30 px)
The banners and signatures should include "Simple-ism" as text
The wall badges should include "Featured in Simple-ism" as text
Remember that any designs should be an example of the Simple-ism ideal
To submit, simply post a (text) link to the image files (preferably gifs) in the
simple-ism gb or pm me. Any questions can be directed at me through pm.
Looking forward to some beautiful simple designs
UPDATE: To make this a more formal permanent part of the group...
all banner submissions will be uploaded to my photobucket album at Simple-ism
Banner Set Submissions
Any banner sets that receive 3 votes will be added to the official
rotation
Ooo...nice...did you paint the background yourself?
I would suggest taking away the dark shadow on her hands and maybe lighten the
back of the umbrella just a bit
There's also a tiny bit of extraction edge left on the left side of the
kimono
Otherwise...it's looking promising...always happy to see a Takeshi Okazaki wall
Seconding RebelSoul...love the theme even more than round 1... but an answer to the scan question?
ok so no wall descrips...more time for finishing the wall
are we supposed to submit descriptions with our walls?
Did you post as a scan or a vector? MT doesn't include vectors under the scan category like AP

so is there still going to be a collab round separate from individual competion?
I vaguely remember the round order from last year...
yea...two people is good for collab round but for a team it seems sadly lacking...
maybe combine pairs for groups of 4?
